This past weekend I traveled somewhere new that I've never been before, but it turned out to be a special trip. I stayed in a cabin in Gatlinburg Tennessee. I saw everything from beautiful landscapes, natural water falls, and wild bears up close and personal.
Cabin Tips
I went on a 15 person trip to the great smoky mountains. We stayed in a huge cabin over looking a gorgeous sunset called Mansion in the Sky. It's a huge cabin that you can rent on sites like VRBO and Airbnb. I believe I even saw this same cabin on TripAdvisor. Check out the video I made of the tour of the cabin here >> https://youtu.be/Of4Gj9yJpyA
This cabin came with at least 10 bed rooms, a full kitchen with 2 of everything, and 4 balcony styled patios spanning the length of the entire place. There were even 2 jacuzzis to dip in if it's cold out.
You can find Mansion in the Sky after driving up a mountain for a about 15 mins twisting and winding your way through cliffs all the way up. When you park you are greeted by a sign above the door letting you know you've arrived.
My room had a King sized bed with a fireplace in front of it. It felt very romantic just sitting in my room. When I opened up the curtains to my windows I could see some of the biggest mountains I have ever seen. It was a gorgeous view.
Things to do
One of the first this I did in Gatlinburg was check out the restaurants on the strip leading into the mountains. I ended up eating at Cheddar's. I was familiar with that restaurant because they have one in Houston, TX where I'm from. I ate a salmon dinner with mashed potatoes and vegetables.
One of my favorite activities was feeding the birds at Jayelle Ranch. For about $20 you are driven to a spot on the ranch where you can go inside of a bird coop and feed all kinds of small birds and parrots.
There's also a few other activities on the ranch that some of the people on the trip came to do like ride horses, ATVs, and Tube down a mountain slide. I found myself going for a quick ride down the mountain slide. It was fun for about 5 seconds and then my tube stopped sliding right before I reached the bottom. I felt a little cheated but I took it as a sign to maybe go try out some other things going on in Gatlinburg.
Grotto Falls
Hands down my favorite activity I did while in Gatlinburg was the small hike I did to Grotto Falls. It was a waterfall that you are met with after taking a 1.6 mile hike up a mountain not far from Mansion in the Sky Cabin. The incline isn't too bad but the consistent walking up hill for almost 2 miles starts to get a little tough. If you're interested in going to Grotto Falls the the view you get when you arrive is absolutely worth it. I highly recommend it.
